Andi Lattimore
Bio-
andi is a queer, neurodivergent multimedia artist with a B.A. in Fine Art and Film Studies from Eastern Michigan University. Their personality consists of their deep interests in nature, the queer community, Halloween, and of course, art. Between the discovery of their gender identity and love of horror, andi has been on a quest to delve more into how the two overlap. Not only do they wish to expose how much the queer community has had in the development of the horror genre, but the importance of the representation and story-telling that horror, science fiction, and fantasy provides.
andi's goals include opening of a safe space for the queer community to be expressive, exploratory, and to find one another in representation all while having fun. Although the hope is to reach out to the community and find family, the work they do is deeply personal. Through horror, andi sees the important information that being queer is both a special and fantastic experience, as well as fighting against those who see them as a monster of sorts, an outcast, and of course, misunderstood. As a creative minded person, andi speaks to these ideas through their art all while working through trauma and finding love through their queer family.
Artist Statement-
I have a diverse body of work, sometimes they follow themes, but typically I work rather spontaneously which is in opposition with how I tend to live needing stability and routine. Inspired by nature, I often find something that calls out to me when I'm out walking around and incorporate it into my work. I am also inspired by the human mind such as the psychology of fears, the human body and its diversity in shape and make up, and I tend to create a lot of body horror out of these morbid curiosities. Other times, I just suddenly find myself sketching and creating monsters or creatures which likely stems from my love of animals, which were some of the first things I started drawing as a child. My work spans from creating new creatures, discussing gender and sexuality, horror and the queer existence, and death and nature. Often a lot of these themes will overlap. The mediums I use also tend to be rather diverse, and although I was educated in traditional life drawing as well as film, I have dabbled in mixed mediums, painting, digital art, screen printing, sculpture, taxidermy, cross-stitch, and more.
