In-person

Description
Have you read Armistead Maupin’s “Tales of the City”? The television miniseries was filmed at Macondray Lane, a hidden unexpected garden path filled with a variety of shrubs and trees (granted they did add a few extra for the television screens)!

The lane was named for a 19th century merchant and viticulturist. Even though it is actually a public right-of-way,  it is magical and has the feel of a private garden. Recently there has been additional landscaping completed by homeowners of lane.

Green Street -- the next street over -- has a block of homes from various of architectural styles, including a Julia Morgan designed home, a Victorian, an Italianate style home built about 1867, and the famous Feusier Octagon House, which is now on the market for Sale! You could be the next owner of it ... for a price!

As we walk & enjoy the scenery, today's walk leader Ethel will share some tidbits of info she's discovered about the neighborhood and buildings. We welcome you to share any memories, stories or history you know about the area! Afterwards if anyone is interested, people can continue walking or enjoy further conversation over a coffee or snack.

These blocks are relatively flat and walkable, however the hill approaching them is shown frequently in car chase scenes, so if you drive, you may have a nice SF workout to get up the hill to our starting location!

We recommend taking the #45 bus to Union & Leavenworth, which brings you to within a half block of our meeting spot on the first block of Macondray Lane at Leavenworth.
