Crossing Bayou Teche tells the story of a 17-year-old girl from a small town in South Louisiana who meets a stranger serendipitously, the first Jewish person and Northerner she had ever met. 4 years later she elopes to marry him in New York. She journeys into a new world of intellectuals, artists, and idealists, confronting ideas very different from her own.
The author, now living on Russian Hill in San Francisco, also chronicles the turbulent historic events and dramatic shifts in customs, values and lifestyles occurring in the US over time, facing each new challenge while holding onto the best parts of her growing up years in Acadiana, a very unique part of the United States.
