Octagon House Tour and "Art Salon"

When?
Tuesday, Sep 13 1:00PM - 2:30PM PDT

Where?
In-person

Description
Join NEXT Village for a private tour of the Octagon House. The eight-sided San Francisco historical landmark is an architectural treasure as well as a Colonial and Federal Periods Decorative Arts Museum. Join us to learn about what was found in the House's time capsule, why Octagon houses were trendy, how the National Society of Colonial Dames saved (and moved) the building, and if there really is a ghost haunting the house!

You'll also get a chance to see decorative arts of the American Colonial and Federal periods, as well as a collection of documents pertaining to Colonial and early American history, which includes signatures of all 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence.

In addition to a tour of the house, we'll get to enjoy a mini Art Salon. Colonial Dame Rebecca Pringle will tell us about a few famous painters of the Revolutionary War Times, including two artists whose original paintings are in the Octagon House (one of the painters, John Trumbull, painted the picture of George Washington that is used on our $1 bill)!

The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America was founded in May 1891, by a group of Philadelphia women dedicated to colonial history, historic preservation and patriotism. The NSCDA promotes appreciation for the people, places and events that led to the formation and development of our country.
