Walking Group: Palace of Fine Arts for Spring Bird Migration

When?
Wednesday, Apr 6 12:30PM - 2:00PM PDT

Where?
In-person

Description
Join us to enjoy the views around the iconic Palace of Fine Arts. It's Spring migration time and the fresh water lagoon we'll be walking around is a prime spot for bird sightings from tiny hummingbirds to great blue heron! If you keep an eye open, you're also likely to see fish, turtles, and tourists in this urban wildlife refuge.

This walk will be for exercise rather than history, however there are signs along the way if you'd like to know about the Palace of Fine Arts, which is the only remaining structure from 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition, a historic World's Fair-style event that put San Francisco back on the map as a major global city after the devastation of the 1906 earthquake and fire.

The entire loop is about 3/4 of a mile and people typically do at least a couple loops. At the start of the walk, you can pair up with partners with a similar pace for walking & conversation. The entire loop is paved, however there are some dirt paths and grassy areas for those who want to explore.

We're likely to see lots of tourists and wedding couples taking photos ... so why not join them and practice your photography skills along the walk?

Please note:
  • Trail is a paved, approximately 3/4 mile flat loop, navigable for most wheelchairs/mobility equipment or strollers.
  • By registering for this event, you acknowledge that you are fully Covid vaccinated, are able to walk a minimum of 1+ miles unassisted without support, and that you won't hold NEXT Village liable for things that hopefully won't, but could happen, when you are out for a walk.
If you want to lead a future walk or if you have any questions about this walk, please email Donna - donna [at] nextvillagesf.org
