Walking Group: Palace of Fine Arts

When?
Friday, Sep 10 1:00PM - 2:30PM PDT

Where?
In-person

Description
This week we're going to enjoy the views around the iconic Palace of Fine Arts -- one of the most photographed sites in the City.

We'll walk around a tranquil fresh water lagoon populated with fish, birds, turtles, ducks, and a swan in this urban wildlife refuge. We'll also enjoy wandering around the Greco-Roman style Rotunda and colonnades. The Palace is the only remaining structure from 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition, a historic World's Fair-style event that put San Francisco back on the map as a major global city after the devastation of the 1906 earthquake and fire.  The Palace of Fine Arts has been a set piece for a number of films, from 1958's The View to 2004's Twisted.

The entire loop is about 3/4 of a mile. You can pair up with partners with similar pace to do one or more laps. The entire loop we'll walk is paved, however there are some dirt paths and grassy areas for those who want to explore.

We're likely to see lots of tourists and wedding couples taking photos ... so why not join them and practice your photography skills along the walk?

Please note:
  • Trail is a paved, approximately 3/4 mile flat loop, navigable for most wheelchairs/mobility equipment or strollers.
  • By registering for this event, you acknowledge that you are fully Covid vaccinated, are able to walk a minimum of 1 miles unassisted without support, and that you won't hold NEXT Village liable for things that hopefully won't, but could happen, when you are out for a walk.
If you want to lead a future walk or if you have any questions about this walk, please email Donna - donna [at] nextvillagesf.org
